Shenzhen Hotels Near the Hong Kong Border: Luohu, Futian Checkpoint and Shenzhen Bay (2026)
Hotels near Luohu Port, Futian Checkpoint and Shenzhen Bay with walk times to each crossing, 2026 opening hours, metro lines, RMB prices and the 24-hour Huanggang option.
Most of the email I get about Shenzhen is one question in disguise: I am coming over from Hong Kong, so where do I sleep so the border is not a daily ordeal? The broader where to stay in Shenzhen guide answers the district question (Futian for a first trip, Luohu for budget, Nanshan for families). This is the narrower version for anyone whose trip is anchored to a crossing: hotels within a walk of Luohu Port, Futian Checkpoint and Shenzhen Bay, what each crossing is good for, and the one that stays open all night.
I have been through Shenzhen and written up the districts from the ground, but I have not slept in every hotel below. The picks come from cross-checking Booking.com, Trip.com and TripAdvisor distance data against the Shenzhen government's July 2025 checkpoint listing and the 2026 crossing guides, keeping only hotels that appear in at least two sources. Prices are RMB with rough US dollars, outside Canton Fair weeks.

The border zones at a glance
Five places to sleep, four crossings, and one of them is really two places with the same name. Hours are from the Shenzhen municipal checkpoint listing (July 2025), re-verified by the crossing guides in mid-2026.
| Zone | Crossing | Hours | Metro line | Typical double | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luohu (Lo Wu) | Luohu Port to MTR Lo Wu, East Rail Line | 6:30am to midnight | Line 1 Luohu (also Line 9 Renmin South) | RMB 250-700 ($35-100); Shangri-La from RMB 700 | Budget, markets, first crossing on foot, New Territories |
| Futian Checkpoint | Futian Port to MTR Lok Ma Chau, East Rail Line | 6:30am to 10:30pm | Lines 4 and 10 Futian Checkpoint | RMB 250-900 ($35-125) | Fastest daytime metro crossing, Kowloon-bound |
| Futian CBD / HSR | Futian station to West Kowloon, 14 min high-speed train | Trains roughly 6:30am to 11:30pm | Lines 2, 3, 11 Futian | RMB 600-1,300 ($85-185) | Early trains, business, first-timers who want the CBD |
| Shenzhen Bay | Shenzhen Bay Port to Hong Kong buses and coaches (no MTR) | 6:30am to midnight | Line 13 Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint | RMB 650-1,500 ($90-210) | Luggage, families, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long, airport coaches, driving |
| Huanggang | Huanggang Port, road only (coaches, private cars) | 24 hours | Line 7 Huanggang Checkpoint | RMB 500-1,000 ($70-140) | Late arrivals, pre-dawn departures |
Two things the table hides. "Midnight" at Luohu and Shenzhen Bay means the last person through at 11:59pm, and the Shenzhen Bay bridge restricts access about half an hour before that, so treat 11:15pm as the real deadline. And the hours are the crossing's, not the metro's: Shenzhen Metro winds down around 11pm to midnight, so a late Luohu crossing can still leave you looking for a taxi.
Which crossing should you sleep next to?
It depends on how you arrive and how often you cross. For the mechanics of walking through, the sister site's Hong Kong to Shenzhen border crossing guide covers it. The hotel logic:
First crossing, no rush: Futian Checkpoint. Every 2026 guide lands here. The walk from Lok Ma Chau is indoors, Line 4 passengers step out of the inspection building straight into the metro, and Trip.com's November 2025 queue data shows it faster than Luohu at every hour. The trade-off is the 10:30pm close, the earliest of the four.
Late arrival into Hong Kong: Huanggang, or Luohu with a midnight margin. Land at HKIA after 9pm and Futian will be shut by the time you get north. Luohu and Shenzhen Bay run to midnight; Huanggang runs all night, though the hotel situation there is thinner than the hours suggest.
Early high-speed train: the Futian HSR cluster, not Futian Checkpoint. The mistake I see most. Futian Port (the land border) and Futian station (the underground high-speed terminus) are 3.5 km apart on different metro lines. For a 7am train to Guangzhou, sleep at Crowne Plaza or Futian Shangri-La, directly over the station; the Shenzhen itinerary uses that cluster as its base. For walking into Hong Kong, sleep at the checkpoint.
Driving or coaching to Hong Kong airport: Shenzhen Bay. The western crossing, at the Shenzhen end of the Shenzhen Bay Bridge, and the one the cross-boundary coaches and private-car services use for HKIA. Both immigration halls share one building, which is why guides push it for anyone with suitcases, kids or older parents.
Repeat Hong Kong day trips: Luohu. Cheapest rooms, the crossing is the next building, and Lo Wu drops you onto the East Rail Line with Kowloon 40 minutes away. The cost is the weekend-morning queue, the worst of the four.
Luohu / Lo Wu: hotels near Luohu Port
Luohu is the original crossing and still the busiest: close to 100 million passages a year, with weekend mornings into Hong Kong and Friday or Sunday evenings back running 60-90 minutes, while weekday afternoons are a different crossing entirely. On the Shenzhen side you step into the forecourt shared with Shenzhen Railway Station (the old mainline station, not the high-speed one) and Line 1's Luohu terminus, with the MixC mall, Dongmen and Shuibei a stop or two up the line. It is the 1990s face of the city, and the prices reflect that.
Shangri-La Shenzhen is the top pick if the border is the whole point. Booking.com puts it about 550 metres from the forecourt and the hotel says five minutes on foot to the crossing, the railway station and Luohu metro. It is an older property (not the Futian Shangri-La, a different hotel 7 km away) with 900-plus Booking reviews at 8.4 and 5,700 Trip.com reviews at 8.8. Doubles swing from around RMB 700 ($100) off-peak on Trip.com to RMB 1,500 ($210) on Booking in busier weeks. Nothing else this close has a proper breakfast and an English-speaking desk.
Renaissance Shenzhen Luohu is the newer alternative one stop up Line 1 at Guomao. Trip.com lists it from about RMB 600 ($85) with a 9.2 from nearly 8,800 reviews, the strongest review base in this post. The walk to the port is 10-15 minutes along Jiabin Road, or two minutes on the metro. I would take it over the Shangri-La if the room matters more than the last 500 metres.
Paco Hotel Shenzhen Luohu Port and Felicity Hotel Shenzhen are the mid-budget pair a block back from the station, both about 400 metres (5-7 minutes) from the crossing. Paco runs around RMB 380 ($54) with a 7.7 from 400-plus reviews; Felicity (the former Best Western) is about RMB 480 ($67) at the same score, and its Booking listing warns of renovation noise on some floors through the end of November 2026. Neither is a destination hotel. Both are clean, close and cheap enough that the border being 400 metres away is the whole pitch.
Chenduo Hotel Luohu Port MIXC is the budget pick from the district guide, and it holds up here: RMB 220-350 ($30-50), a 9.0 from more than 5,000 Trip.com reviews, and guests repeatedly note the MixC mall across the road. The walk to the port is 12-15 minutes, or one stop on Line 1.
Futian Checkpoint and Futian HSR station hotels
Two different Futians. Futian Checkpoint (Futian Port, 福田口岸) is the land crossing at the southern end of Metro Lines 4 and 10, linked by footbridge to Hong Kong's Lok Ma Chau station on the East Rail Line. Futian station (福田站) is the underground high-speed terminus 3.5 km north under the CBD, where the 14-minute train from West Kowloon arrives. Hotels near one are not near the other; between them it is Line 4 three stops to Civic Center and Line 2 one stop, about 20 minutes, or a RMB 15-25 taxi.
The checkpoint runs 6:30am to 10:30pm. Line 4 passengers enter the inspection building directly; Line 10 passengers use Exit C, since the two lines are not connected inside the station. Trip.com's November 2025 data puts the busiest windows at 9-11am into Shenzhen on weekends and 4-6pm back into Hong Kong.

Hampton by Hilton Shenzhen Futian Port is the one international-brand hotel actually at the checkpoint: Trip.com measures it at 250 metres and Booking at about 275, a 3-4 minute walk. It is what I would book for a first crossing. Prices are the volatile part, from around RMB 650 ($91) on Trip.com to RMB 1,350 ($190) on Booking for the same room class, so compare both. Scores are 9.5 on Trip.com and 8.3 on Booking from a smaller base.
The budget band at Futian Port is unusually deep for a border zone. Dynasty Hotel Shenzhen Futian Port (420 metres, from RMB 250, 8.8), IU Hotel Futian Port Metro Station (310 metres, from RMB 230, 8.3) and GreenTree Alliance Futian Port (280 metres, from RMB 240) all sit within a five-minute walk on Trip.com's distance data. Domestic chains with minimal English, small rooms and clean beds, the right trade for a one-night border stop. Check the newest reviews for whether the branch registers foreign passports smoothly; this is the tier where the licensing issue still bites.
Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhen and Intercity Shenzhen Futian Huanggang are the mid-range options about 1 km back towards the Convention Centre on both Booking and Trip.com, a 12-15 minute walk or one stop on Line 4 to Fumin. Four Points runs RMB 520-900 ($73-125) and Intercity RMB 620-1,000 ($87-140), scoring 9.0 and 9.7 on the two platforms. The Intercity is also the closest decent hotel to Huanggang.
For the high-speed rail cluster, the picks match the district guide: Crowne Plaza Shenzhen Futian about 300 metres from Futian station, Futian Shangri-La with a five-minute walk to Exit 10, and Sheraton Shenzhen Futian at 800 metres, all in the RMB 850-1,300 ($120-185) band outside fair weeks. If the plan is the things to do in Shenzhen rather than Hong Kong, this is also simply the better part of town to sleep in.

Shenzhen Bay hotels
Shenzhen Bay Port is the western crossing, at the Shenzhen end of the 5.5 km Shenzhen Bay Bridge into Hong Kong's northwest New Territories. It runs 6:30am to midnight and is the only land crossing where Hong Kong and mainland immigration share one building (the "one place, two inspections" model), which is why it is consistently called the most comfortable crossing for luggage and the fastest to clear. It set a single-day passenger record in summer 2025, so "fast" is relative on holiday weekends, but Tin Shui Wai reviewers still call it the one that is usually not busy.
Two caveats. There is no MTR on the Hong Kong side: you leave by bus (B2 and B2P to Tin Shui Wai, B3, B3X and B3A to Tuen Mun, minibus 618), by cross-boundary coach to Kowloon or Hong Kong airport (about 80 minutes to HKIA, direct coaches around HK$150-200, or the public B2P-plus-E37 combination near HK$25 and 90 minutes), or by taxi at HK$200-350 from Tsim Sha Tsui. On the Shenzhen side, Metro Line 13 reached the port on 28 December 2024, with Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint station a two-minute walk from the hall.

Hotel supply is the thinnest of the three zones, because the port sits on reclaimed land between Shenzhen Bay Park and office towers. Shenzhen Bay Hisoar Hotel is the nearest, about 780 metres on Booking's measurement, a 10-minute walk, at RMB 650-750 ($97) with a 7.7. A functional Chinese business hotel, fine for one night before an airport coach.
The better rooms cluster 1.3-1.8 km east around Houhai, which is two stops on Line 13 (Dengliang East, then Houhai) or a five-minute taxi. Hotel Kapok Shenzhen Bay shows at 1.3 km from the port on Booking (listed under its Chinese name, 深圳后海木棉花酒店) at about RMB 1,050 ($150); hotels.com puts the port at a five-minute drive and Houhai station an 18-minute walk. Intercity Hotel Shenzhen Bay is at 1.6 km, RMB 900 ($129), an 8.6 on Booking and nine minutes' walk from Houhai metro. Andaz Shenzhen Bay is the splurge at 1.8 km, a 220-room Hyatt with a 9.1 and doubles around RMB 1,300-2,000 ($180-280). All three put you in the newest part of Nanshan with the bay promenade at the door, and make the natural base for the theme parks further up the district. One warning from a May 2025 review of the nearby Renaissance Shenzhen Bay: there is little within walking distance of the port-side hotels at night. For restaurants on foot, sleep at Houhai or Shekou, not the port.

Huanggang: the 24-hour note
Huanggang is the only passenger crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong that never closes, and the rebuilt terminal opened on 12 October 2026 with 134 e-channels and a claimed clearance time of around five minutes. It sits about 1.5 km west of Futian Checkpoint, on Metro Line 7 at Huanggang Checkpoint station.
The catch is that it is a road crossing. No train on the Hong Kong side; you leave on a cross-boundary coach or shuttle to Kowloon, Hong Kong Island or the airport, or in a private car, and "24 hours" applies to the immigration hall, not to every coach departure. That makes it right for a late flight into HKIA followed by a midnight coach, or a pre-dawn departure the other way, and wrong for a casual day trip.
There is no hotel cluster at the port itself. Sleep at the Futian Port hotels above (Hampton by Hilton and the budget trio are a 20-minute walk or a RMB 12 taxi away) or at Intercity Shenzhen Futian Huanggang, and taxi to the hall when you need it. Aggregator searches for "near Huanggang Border Crossing" return Luohu and CBD properties several kilometres off, so filter by map, not label.

Crossing and visa basics, briefly
One paragraph, because the sister site owns this topic. Most Western passports, including New Zealand, the UK and Australia, currently get 30 days visa-free in China; US passports are on the 240-hour transit rule, which needs a confirmed onward ticket to a third country (Hong Kong counts). Immigration wants a hotel booking and an onward ticket, and screenshots are fine. For current rules and what to show at the desk, read the Shenzhen visa from Hong Kong guide before booking anything non-refundable.
Practical notes for border-zone hotels
- Bring the passport to check-in, every time. The hotel scans it and registers you with the police within 24 hours. Routine, and the reason a photo of your passport will not do.
- Book on an international platform. Since 2024 national authorities have told hotels not to refuse foreign guests, but budget branches near the ports still occasionally cannot register a foreign passport. Booking.com and Trip.com listings that accept your booking almost always do; domestic-app screenshots are where people get caught.
- Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before you cross. Both take foreign Visa and Mastercard in 2026 and both work at hotel desks, metro gates and every noodle shop between the port and your room. Shenzhen Metro also accepts contactless foreign bank cards at the gate. Carry HK$100-200 for the Hong Kong-side bus at Shenzhen Bay and RMB 100 or so for a taxi if you clear Luohu after the metro has shut.
- Avoid Canton Fair weeks. The fair runs mid-April to early May and mid-October to early November (15 April to 5 May and 15 October to 4 November in 2026) and fills Shenzhen as well as Guangzhou. Border-zone budget rooms roughly double and the big brands jump more. If your dates can shift a week, shift them.
- Match the hotel to the crossing, not the district name. "Futian" covers both the land checkpoint and the high-speed station, 3.5 km apart. Check walking distance on the map, not the listing label.
- Last trains and last crossings do not line up. Futian closes at 10:30pm, Luohu and Shenzhen Bay at midnight, the metro around 11pm to midnight depending on the line. A hotel within a 10-minute walk of the port is the only version of this that is relaxing after dark.
Not crossing every day? Then the district matters more than the checkpoint, and I compare them in Futian vs Luohu vs Nanshan.
Which one I would book
Two or three nights on the Shenzhen side with no strong reason to be anywhere specific: Hampton by Hilton Futian Port for the first crossing, then Chenduo Luohu Port MIXC if the budget matters or Renaissance Luohu if it does not. Shenzhen Bay only enters the picture with suitcases and an airport coach, and Huanggang only after dark.
Whether the detour from Hong Kong is worth it at all, I argued in Is Shenzhen worth visiting?. For the city itself, see things to do in Shenzhen, the Shenzhen itinerary and the where-to-stay guide for the parts of town not next to a border. If you have crossed recently and the hours, queues or distances here have drifted, tell me and I will update this. Shenzhen's border infrastructure changes faster than any guide can follow; the new Huanggang terminal is proof.
Frequently asked
Which hotels are near Luohu Port in Shenzhen?
Shangri-La Shenzhen is the closest full-service hotel, about a 5-minute walk from the Luohu (Lo Wu) crossing and Shenzhen Railway Station, with doubles from roughly RMB 700-1,500. Paco Hotel Luohu Port and Felicity Hotel are 5-7 minutes away at RMB 380-550, and Chenduo Hotel Luohu Port MIXC is the budget pick at RMB 220-350 about 12-15 minutes' walk away. Renaissance Shenzhen Luohu sits one metro stop up Line 1 at Guomao.
Where should I stay in Shenzhen for a Hong Kong day trip?
Next to Luohu Port or Futian Checkpoint, both of which connect straight onto Hong Kong's MTR East Rail Line. Luohu is cheaper and open until midnight; Futian is the faster, calmer crossing but closes at 10:30pm. If you plan to go back and forth more than once, pick a hotel within a 10-minute walk of either, because the metro ride to the crossing is the part that eats a day.
What hotels are near Futian Checkpoint?
Hampton by Hilton Shenzhen Futian Port is about 250 metres from the checkpoint building, roughly a 3-4 minute walk, at RMB 650-1,300 depending on dates. Dynasty Hotel, IU Hotel and GreenTree Alliance all sit within 450 metres at RMB 230-300. Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhen and Intercity Shenzhen Futian Huanggang are about 1 km away. Note the big-name Futian hotels (Shangri-La, Crowne Plaza, Sheraton) are at the high-speed rail station 3.5 km north, not at the checkpoint.
Are there hotels near Shenzhen Bay Port?
Yes, but fewer than at Luohu or Futian because the port sits on reclaimed land at the edge of Nanshan. Shenzhen Bay Hisoar Hotel is the closest at about 780 metres (10 minutes on foot). Hotel Kapok Shenzhen Bay, Intercity Hotel Shenzhen Bay and Andaz Shenzhen Bay cluster around Houhai 1.3-1.8 km away, which is two stops on Metro Line 13 or a 5-minute taxi. Expect RMB 650-2,000 depending on the tier.
Which Shenzhen-Hong Kong border crossing is open 24 hours?
Huanggang is the only round-the-clock passenger crossing. Luohu and Shenzhen Bay run 6:30am to midnight, Futian Checkpoint 6:30am to 10:30pm, and the high-speed rail from Futian to West Kowloon runs roughly 6:30am to 11:30pm. Huanggang is a road crossing (cross-boundary coaches and private cars, no train on the Hong Kong side) reached by Shenzhen Metro Line 7, and its rebuilt terminal opened in October 2026.
How far is Futian Checkpoint from Futian high-speed rail station?
About 3.5 km. They are different places with similar names: Futian Checkpoint (Futian Port) is the walk-across land border at the end of Metro Lines 4 and 10, while Futian station is the underground high-speed rail terminus under the CBD on Lines 2, 3 and 11. Between them it is roughly 20 minutes by metro with one change at Civic Center, or a RMB 15-25 taxi. Pick your hotel for the one you will actually use.
Can foreigners stay at any hotel near the Shenzhen border?
Mostly, and the rules improved in 2024 when national authorities told hotels not to turn away foreign guests, but individual budget properties still occasionally refuse or cannot register a foreign passport. Booking through an international platform (Booking.com, Trip.com) rather than a domestic app filters most of this out. Bring your passport to check-in: the hotel scans it and registers you with the police, which is normal and takes a couple of minutes.
