I Went to Japan...... in China
We were just exploring the nightlife of Guiyang, China — no plans, no map — when we turned a corner and stopped dead in our tracks.
Neon lights. Night markets. Izakaya-style storefronts. The kind of electric, buzzing energy you'd expect to find somewhere in Tokyo's Golden Gai or Shinjuku — except we were standing in the middle of southwestern China.
This place is something else. Not fully Chinese. Not fully Japanese. Something in between — a neon-soaked night district with an identity crisis in the best possible way. The stores, the restaurants, the crowds, the lights — it all hits differently after dark.
Guiyang keeps surprising us. And this night might have been the best one yet.
