My mum grew up in Guiyang. My dad grew up in Chongqing. I grew up in New Zealand, and the last time I was in China I was a kid, ten years ago. So this summer, Kaede and I went back: three weeks, six cities, one typhoon, from Hong Kong all the way down to Hainan.
This is the whole trip in one video: the world's biggest electronics market, a $40 five-star hotel, a 24-hour spa, my mum's hometown that nobody's heard of, my dad's city built into the mountains, capybaras, meerkats and a lot of lychees.
If you've got a place in your family's story you haven't been back to, tell me in the comments where you'd go first.
